The first time I saw softness in your eyes was when we were running to get somewhere, and I stopped to turn and look for you. You were looking at me with a kind of softness I have never seen before. But I brushed it off and told you to hurry.
The second time was when we had a chat about stopping a certain situation between us. You were gentle. I was devastated and trying my best not to show it on my face.
The third time was when you told me you cared for me more than I ever realised. I saw myself in your eyes. I also saw so much emotions, probably love, and yet we were both in so much pain.
The fourth time was when you decided to throw caution into the wind and came over. That was the best morning we have ever had.
The fifth time was when we were among people, and you looked at me amidst the chaos and smiled. It was so gentle and full of affection.
And the final time I remember seeing gentleness in your eyes was when you grabbed my face while inebriated, and said, “I’m sorry”.
The rest of my memories were your cold, hard stares. Devoid of emotions. Or a conscious avoidance of my gaze.
Yet, those six moments remain vivid in my mind, because I felt loved and unadulterated happiness. And you were kind.
