It is special because it has always been my favourite holiday since young.
The one day with no drama, only joy. With one of my favourite childhood memories being at Serangoon Country Club with my family, smiling ear to ear next to the Christmas tree.
The annual Christmas shopping with my uncle, aunty, cousin and brother at Toys R’ Us.
My father driving us down Orchard Road just to look at the lightings.
The feel good Christmas movies, the weather, the joyous atmosphere.
It has always been my favourite day of the year.
A few years back, I was so caught up in a toxic situation, I spent two consecutive Christmases eating crumbs off the floor (metaphorically). Idiotically grateful, with a laser focus on what I thought was love. Indulging in intimacy that took more than it gave.
That was why I decided to spend last year’s Christmas alone, resting, making it my own again. There was sadness, because of the fresh memories (back then). But this year, I know I won’t be. :)
For I have reclaimed it, just like my heart, love, body and soul.
They are mine, and nobody’s to ruin. :))
